WalmartSucks.org™

Hello, I am a current employee on his way to being a former employee. I have been with WM for approx 8 years and I can see by WM's management that that is 3-4 years to long. About 5 years ago it started, the picking, the calling me and others into the office for things that management "heard". All they wanted was a reason to interrogate me, to get me to say ANYTHING that they could use to terminate me. They didn't get it. Now a little background, I am/was Loss Prevention for WM. I produced their "not stated quota" of apprehensions almost every month for years. I would lead the district in apps and still be told "you can get more". I knew the picking, the digging, the harassment, as it should be called, would be starting as I could see WM doing it with other associates that worked there long enough to actually make high enough wages to pay their bills. First the picking started with management telling me that I was going to go work in other stores. I wasn't hired at these other stores and if I wanted to travel, sometimes up to 2-3 hours a day to work at these other stores, then I would have applied at these other stores. They tried to threaten me with "you will go work there or you will be terminated". Me, being a former police officer, am not intimidated very easily and I flat out told them "then terminate me, I'll see what my lawyer has to say about that". At that point the harassing stopped, on that subject, for a couple months. Then it started with management looking through my files, my log books, my evidence locker, looking for anything to get me out of there. And the reason? Because I was making twice what they could pay someone else to replace me. When they couldn't find an excuse to terminate me because of my record keeping the real harassment started. I was a friendly LP to the associates, I actually spoke to them, said hello, helped with issues when I could but on the other hand I didn't have a problem apprehending any of them for theft if I caught them and they all knew that. So management started using the fact that I spoke to people against me. I started being called into the office because management was "told" or management "heard" that I was violating WM's fraternization policy. It was to the point where I was being called into the office and "drilled" about something 5 times a week. They even went as far as starting, what WM calls, a Red Book Investigation on me. WM does actually have a red binder filled with step by step instructions and procedures on how to harass their associates. They decided that I was dating a female associate and was bound to prove it. This process was started in 2004. What they did in this so called "investigation" was called me in the office, told me they heard I was dating an associate and told me "just tell me the truth, I understand that people can fall in love at WM and I am here to help you". I ask where this so called information came from and of course I was told that is confidential information that was obtained by another associate using WM's "open door policy". Open Door is just another sneaky way of WM trying to obtain information from associates so WM can later use it against them or others in the company. I was shocked that they would go as far as this. A Red Book Investigation eventually involves much higher ups then just management at the store level. I answered their questions and was told that they would need to "interview several other associates on this matter and you may be called in again to answer further questions as they arise". I was indeed called in, several times. I was asked the same questions over and over. By the 5th time I was called in the office I was so angry that I told them that this is nothing but pure harassment and the next thing I was doing was calling my lawyer. I also told them that they can ask anything they want, I wasn't answering any questions for some bogus, so called, investigation. During this 1 month time frame I was told by approx 30-40 associates that they were called in and asked questions about me and asked If they knew of any other people that they, being management, could speak to. I was called in 1 more time after I threatened to call my lawyer. This time it was for management to tell me that there was no evidence to show or prove that what management "heard" was true and that the Red Book Investigation was closed. All was quiet for a few weeks when it started again. Trying to tell me that I was to go to other stores to work for a few days, telling me I wasn't making enough apprehensions for shoplifting, they didn't like the hours I was working. Just on and on. During this time I had joined the military reserve. I do the 1 weekend a month, 2 weeks a year thing. About a year ago I was told that WM might be, again, might be, phasing out the LP position and replacing it with another position that would do paper work auditing. Basically WM wanted $10.00 an hour accountants. I was told by my boss that some stores would actually be keeping the job that I do but would just call it Asset Protection Associate. A couple months later I was told that my store was one of them that would be keeping my position. I was also told that due to this change that I would need to apply for this position, the position that I already held, when the change was to take effect. I was also told that since I already held this position that It was to go to me. No one was able to tell me when this change was to occur. A few months ago I went on military leave to do my 2 week training with my military police reserve unit. The day after I left, WM management posted on the back hall wall a job opening for Asset Protection. My position. This posting was there for 3 days then the interviewing started and the position was filled within a week. I wasn't aware that this was even going on. While I was at military training I was injured that resulted in me needing surgery and of course several weeks off. I returned to WM to pick up medical leave papers and that's when I was asked by an associate what it was that I was going to do now? I asked what was meant by that and was told that WM hired someone else to fill my position. I went back and asked management if this was true and I was told, "I'm sorry, we can't discuss this with you, you will need to call your boss. At this point, you can just consider what you heard nothing but rumors until you are released to come back to work". I couldn't believe that they didn't even have the guts to tell me to my face. I went straight out to my vehicle and called my boss and I was told THE EXACT SAME THING. When I'm released to come back to work then "we will discuss it". As of today I have at least 3 more weeks before I'm released to return to work. WM thinks they found their loophole. Their way of terminating me with no cause. They are wrong. There are so many more things that will get posted here Wal-Mart. We are ready to jump all over this. And when I say "we, guess who im talking about Wal-Mart.....You guessed it!
